On Monday, Oct. 30,  Moulton Niguel Water District welcomed a new General Manager – for the day.

Laguna Niguel student Beck Winters was named the District’s “GM for the Day” as he visited District headquarters, met with Moulton Niguel’s elected Board of Directors, and learned about the region’s wastewater treatment process.

A fifth grader at Moulton Elementary, Beck is keenly interested in local water issues at such a young age. He joined Moulton Niguel staff and local officials for a facility tour of the Regional Lift Station and Regional Treatment Plant to learn how we safeguard our region’s water supplies and treat our wastewater in an environmentally responsible manner.

“I didn’t know it was so hard to recycle sewer water into recycled water,” Beck said after visiting a regional lift station and the regional treatment plant. “I’m probably going to conserve water more now.”

Beck learned all about Moulton Niguel’s wastewater services, the 540 miles of wastewater pipelines that Moulton Niguel operates, and the 19 lift stations, one of which he visited, that pump wastewater over the ridge lines to the various treatment plants for disposal or recycling.

“What’s in there?” Beck takes a peek into Moulton Niguel Water District’s wet well, an underground wastewater collection basin, at the Regional Lift Station where he learns about how the local community’s wastewater is collected

“I was so impressed with Beck’s ability to understand such a dynamic subject matter,” said Joone Lopez, Moulton Niguel Water District General Manager, who gladly shared her GM duties with Beck. “It’s such a great opportunity to be able to bring our local residents, and students like Beck, to tour our facilities and experience first-hand how we provide a safe and reliable water supply to our communities.”

Beck was joined by Moulton Niguel’s General Manager Joone Lopez, Assistant General Manager Matt Collings, Director of Engineering Rod Woods, Director of Operations Todd Novacek, Superintendent of Wastewater Operations Jesus Garribay, Board President Don Frolich, Board Vice President Scott Colton, Board Member Dick Fiore, Moulton Staff Members, and Laguna Niguel Mayor Pro Tem Elaine Gennawey as he toured wastewater facilities near Laguna Niguel Regional Park.
