MOULTON NIGUEL RECEIVES $400,000 FEDERAL GRANT FOR CONSERVATION PROGRAMS

The U.S. Department of Interior Bureau of Reclamation has awarded Moulton Niguel $400,000 to support water efficiency programs. The federal grant, provided through the WaterSMART Water and Energy Efficiency Grant Program, will help support the District’s outdoor water conservation programs, including the NatureScape turf-to-native garden program, which helps customers replace turf with watershed friendly CA native gardens. With the federal matching grant, Moulton Niguel has been able to increase its water conservation rebates. The District is now offering customers $4 for every square foot of grass that is replaced with drought-friendly landscaping. Now twice the previous incentive rate, the average customer could see $3,300 in rebates under the enhanced rebate program.

Moulton Niguel was one of just 55 projects in the entire country to receive funding from the grant program during this cycle. In recent years, the District has received about $2.5 million in federal grants for water efficiency programs.

PROACTIVE INFRASTRUCTURE MAINTENANCE ENSURES SAFE & RELIABLE WATER SERVICE

Did you know drinking water is stored inside a reservoir after it is treated but before it reaches your tap? Water reservoirs are necessary to maintain water quality, control water pressure, and provide ample water supply for daily use and fire emergencies. Reservoir maintenance and rehabilitation is extremely important to ensure clean drinking water continues to flow to your tap, which is why Moulton Niguel recently rehabilitated two reservoirs in the City of Laguna Niguel. The rehabilitation project included recoating of the interior and exterior surfaces of the reservoirs, along with seismic and structural improvements to ensure the continued safety, security, and reliability of our water supply. Combined the two reservoirs can store up to three million gallons of water which serves over 64,000 customers.

Take a look inside one of the reservoirs that received upgrades by watching the video below.
