New Year, New Program to Save Water & Money
In an effort to expand our water efficiency programs into 2018, we are very excited about our newest endeavor, the NatureScape Turf-to-Native Garden Program! With NatureScape, we are now providing a customer friendly program that helps homeowners replace turf with native, low water-use landscapes.
The program simplifies turf replacement projects by connecting customers with a local nursery to streamline and customize the landscape design and installation process. To qualify for this project, simply attend one of our landscape workshops.
If you have already attended a landscape workshop, all you need to do is register on our website to begin.

Moulton Niguel Customers Remove 5 Million SF of Turf!
Thank you to our customers who helped Moulton Niguel reach an impressive milestone in late 2017: the removal of 5 million square feet of turf, resulting in 500 million gallons of water savings! The removal of 5 million SF of turf represents approximately 25% of all the turf removed throughout Orange County.
To put this in perspective, to replace 5 million SF of turf, you’d have to replace the grass in all 31 NFL stadiums – three times! To think about what 500 million gallons of water looks like, think about what it takes to fill 757 Olympic-sized pools.
Since 2011, the District has been providing its turf removal rebate with more than 2,500 customers completing turf removal projects, which have included residential landscapes, business centers and recreational facilities. Moulton Niguel continues to offer a rebate of up to $2 per square foot.
“It’s a great program that helps the environment, adds beauty and value to my home, and reduces my water bill every month,” said Moulton Niguel customer Doug Freck, a turf removal program participant who was recognized by the District’s Board of Directors at the turf transformation customer appreciation ceremony.
