Board Approves New Rate Structure to Encourage Efficiency

LAGUNA NIGUEL, Calif. (May 3, 2011) - The Moulton Niguel Water District Board of Directors last month approved transitioning from our current rate structure to a new structure that is based on meeting each customers’ specific water needs with individualized water budgets. The new Water-Budget-Based Rate Structure will go into effect for water used beginning July 1, 2011, and is designed to encourage efficient water use and reduce water waste. The District will be working closely with customers over the next several months to raise awareness of the change, but here’s what you need to know:

What This Means for Customers
Every MNWD customer will receive an individualized water budget designed to meet their specific indoor and outdoor water needs. No matter the size of your household or yard, you should be able to remain within your water budget and pay the lowest available rate if you follow basic water conservation practices, resulting in only a minor increase in your water bill. Customers who are inefficient will pay increasingly more for the water they use in excess of their water budget, which will give them the financial incentive to become more efficient.

Accuracy and Flexibility
MNWD is committed to making sure everyone has a customized water budget that provides the water necessary to meet their efficient needs. The new rate structure includes simple steps to adjust the water budget established for your home, should there be a legitimate need for more water. Please visit the rate calculator at www.MNWD.com to see if the data we’re using for your account is correct, and please call us at (949) 831-2500 if you believe we need to adjust your budget.

We are here to answer your questions about the new rate structure. Please visit www.MNWD.com for more information and a detailed FAQ, and please call us at (949) 831- 2500 if you have additional questions. Our goal is to help all of our customers stay within their water budgets and receive the lowest possible bills.
