Board Approves New Rate Structure to Encourage Efficiency
LAGUNA NIGUEL, Calif. (July 6, 2011) - The Moulton Niguel Water District’s new Water-Budget-Based Rate Structure is now in effect for water used beginning July 1, 2011, and will appear on your next bill. The structure is based on meeting each customer’s specific water needs with personalized water budgets, and is designed to encourage efficient water use and reduce water waste. The District will be working closely with customers over the next several months to raise awareness of the change, but here’s what you need to know:
What This Means for Customers
Every MNWD customer will receive a personalized water budget designed to meet their specific indoor and outdoor water needs. Water budgets are based on current use, NOT on historical use. They are designed so that no matter the size of your household or yard, you should be able to remain within your water budget and pay the lowest possible rate if you follow water-efficiency practices.
Customers who are inefficient will pay increasingly more for the water they use in excess of their water budget, which will give them the financial incentive to become more efficient. A recent analysis shows that nearly 94 percent of MNWD customers’ water use should remain within their water budgets to begin, and that number will only increase as customers become more familiar with the new rate structure.
Accuracy and Flexibility
MNWD is committed to making sure everyone has a personalized water budget that provides the water necessary to meet their efficient needs. The new rate structure includes simple steps to adjust the water budget established for your home, should there be a legitimate need for more water. Adjustments can be requested by visiting www.MNWD.com, calling (949) 831-2500 or by visiting the District in person.
We are here to answer your questions about the new rate structure.
