Added conservation protected supplies during treatment plant shutdown
LAGUNA NIGUEL, Calif. (April 7, 2011) - MNWD asked our customers to greatly reduce their water use during the first week in March to ensure a sufficient supply during the planned shutdown of the Diemer Water Treatment Plant in Yorba Linda, which provides all of our District’s water. Our customers did an outstanding job, reducing their use over previous weeks and helping to ensure we could continue meeting local needs.
MNWD is working to diversify our water supply to help maintain reliable service during future Diemer shutdowns, or other emergencies that may cut off one or more of our water sources. The Irvine Ranch Water District Interconnection will provide MNWD access to groundwater sources in central and north Orange County, the Baker Treatment Plant will allow South County agencies to treat our own water when the Diemer Plant is down, and Upper Chiquita Reservoir will store 266 million gallons of water for emergency use by local water providers. All three projects should be online by 2012.
We greatly appreciate the extra steps you took to use less water, and encourage you to keep them up! Conservation is easy, and it’s important everyone does their part. For more tips, visit www.MNWD.com.
