Orange County Regional Water and Wastewater Multi-Hazard Mitigation Plan - Comments Requested
Moulton Niguel Water District and 19 other participating water and wastewater utilities (see full list below) are updating the Orange County Regional Water and Wastewater Multi-Hazard Mitigation Plan, which was approved in February of 2007. Hazard mitigation plans form the foundation for a community's long-term strategy to identify vulnerability to natural and man-made hazards. The plans also aim to reduce disaster losses by breaking the cycle of disaster damage, reconstruction, and repetitive damage. According to the federal Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000, State and local governments are required to develop hazard mitigation plans and update them every five years as a condition for receiving certain types of non-emergency disaster assistance. Public involvement in the update process is very important, and it is, in fact, required. Residents are encouraged to review the plan, provide comments and ask questions.
Moulton Niguel Water District and the participating utilities would like to invite residents, businesses, and our coordinating partners to review the plan and provide input into the five-year update. As the participating agencies continue to work on the document, we will take into consideration recommendations and questions from the public. The plan is available electronically by accessing http://www.mwdoc.com/weroc/Hazard-Mitigation.
The period for public comment will be from Wednesday, January 4, 2012, through Friday, January 13, 2012. Those wishing to provide comments electronically can e-mail their comments to Kelly Hubbard at KHubbard@mwdoc.com.
Brief presentations on the plan update, along with opportunities for public comment in person will also be available. Please check back here for those times, dates and locations. Additionally, each participating utility will be taking the plan to their elected board for review and approval. We will post those dates on this page as they are scheduled.
