Urban Runoff

When customers waste water by over-irrigating their landscaping or using a hose to clean driveways and cars, all the excess water runs down gutters, picking up pollutants like fertilizers, trash, motor oil and pesticides. This polluted runoff makes its way into storm drains and creeks, and eventually into the ocean, damaging local beaches, waterways and ecosystems.

Given the statewide Drought Emergency, this is water we can’t afford to waste. By following MNWD’s 12 Mandatory Water-Use Rules, which limit irrigation times and require the use of hoses with shut-off nozzles when washing cars, we can reduce runoff pollution and save large amounts of our valuable water resources.

Overwatering outdoors wastes our precious resources and harms the environment.
