California-Friendly Plant: Lion’s Tail
If you’re looking to add a little roar to your California-Friendly garden, then look no further than the lion’s tail. Also known as lion’s ear or lion’s claw, this unique semi-evergreen perennial features bright clusters of orange flowers that bloom during summer and fall, resembling their namesake, the king of the jungle. And just like real lions, the lion’s tail is common in portions of Africa with scarce rainfall, making it ideal for Southern California.
Early spring fertilization is recommended, along with full sun and well-drained soil. Then a little pruning
is all that’s needed for this colorful plant to thrive.
