California-Friendly Plant: Silver Swan

Silver SwanCalifornia-Friendly plants come in all shapes, sizes and colors, and although it is not the flashiest of the bunch, the Silver Swan is the perfect foundation for your drought-tolerant garden.

Silver Swan grows in bushes with long, straight red stems covered with silver-green leaves. The plant’s stocky stature makes it a beautiful hedge or filler, but it can also stand on its own as the star of the show.

Like many other drought-tolerant plants, the Silver Swan is the epitome of low maintenance. The plant thrives in poor soil, needs little pruning other than the removal of dead flower stalks, and will be just fine without any added water. Now is also the perfect time to plant Silver Swan, as it will benefit from winter rains as it establishes its roots.

Silver Swan is a member of the Euphorbia family, which also contains some not-so-droughttolerant varieties. So when buying Silver Swan, it is important to make sure you are buying the right plants for your California-Friendly garden.
