The Roadmap to Reliable Service
MNWD’s Records and Mapping Department keeps track of one of the region’s largest water distribution systems.

MNWD’s Records and Mapping Department keeps track of one of the region’s largest water distribution systems. MNWD’s Records and Mapping Department consists of three full-time employees whose primary function is to store, manage and retrieve approximately 60,000 documents relating to the District’s infrastructure. The documents include plans and related information for all District facilities, including more than 1,400 miles of water, wastewater and recycled water pipelines. The staff stores this information by scanning and cataloging each item for easy retrieval. The stored information dates all the way back to the formation of the District in 1960.

The files and documents include construction plans for the region’s original developments and infrastructure that was built to provide water and wastewater service to the District’s first customers.

The Records and Mapping Department also maintains the District’s Geographic Information System (GIS). The GIS provides readily accessible information to District staff to assist in planning and operations of the water and wastewater systems. The Department assists customers who request plans, maps and easement documentation as well. In emergencies, the Records and Mapping Department is critical in coordinating with field personnel to provide construction plans and assist in developing solutions.

The Records and Mapping Department helps the District keep track of one of the region’s largest water delivery systems, which allows MNWD to ensure a reliable supply of water for each of our 172,000 customers.
